The Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting offensive operations in several directions. In particular, the Defense Forces managed to gain a foothold in new positions near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.

This is stated in a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts, citing Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar, report that the situation in Bakhmut has escalated. In particular, both Russian occupation and Ukrainian forces are fighting for initiative and control over the terrain. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are advancing on the southern flank of Klishchiivka, and fighting continues on the northern flank of the village.

The General Staff of Ukraine reports nine enemy attacks that Ukrainian forces repelled near Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanovske, west of Yahidne and southeast of Bila Hora. Also, the defense forces conducted offensive operations north and south of Bakhmut, consolidating in new positions.

"Widespread problems with Russia's combat capabilities likely continue to affect the ability of Russian forces to defend against Ukrainian counterattacks in the Bakhmut area. The ISW has previously assessed that the problems of various Russian Bakhmut Axis groups, along with apparent command and control failures, likely prevented Russian forces in the area from conducting effective defensive operations," the Institute said in a report.

The General Staff of Ukraine also reported that Ukrainian troops held the defense against Russian offensives near Avdiivka and repelled 15 Russian ground attacks near Marinka.

As reported, the head of the British Armed Forces, Tony Radakin, said that a large-scale counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not yet begun, so it is unfair to speculate or tie Ukraine to deadlines. According to him, the occupiers are already so weak that they do not have the strength for a significant counteroffensive: during 18 months of fighting they lost about 2000-2500 tanks.
