President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russian aggressors would have a chance to occupy Ukraine if the United States and partners did not provide weapons and funding during the war.
He stated this during an interview with the BBC.
The journalist said that many Americans who support the Republican Party are in favor of reducing aid to Ukraine. She noted that the continuation of assistance will likely depend on the speed of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
In turn, the President noted that Ukraine was very grateful to President Joe Biden, Congress and all legislators.
"I know that there are different messages, different presidential candidates. But when we sit down at the negotiating table with our partners, when representatives of Democrats or Republicans, the Congress as a whole come to us, they are always united in supporting Ukraine. At least they tell me about it all the time," the president said.
When asked by a journalist whether Zelensky believes in the words of the Americans that they will stay with Ukraine as long as necessary, he replied: "What are the options?"
The President reminded that the United States is "definitely a leader in helping" Ukraine.
"And I understand that without the weapons of the United States, without the finances with which they support our budget, Russia will have every chance to occupy us. We need this help very, very much," Zelensky said.
He said that it is difficult to predict how long allies will help Ukraine. Zelensky said that Ukraine believes in the support of partners, but understands that it must first of all count on itself, so it launches its own production of weapons.
"But this is not enough. Russia has been living the war all its life. They planned to occupy us, and they are forty times larger than us. Therefore, we need the help of partners," the president summed up.
We will remind, earlier it was reported that the Congress of the United States of America prepared an unprecedented bill on freezing, confiscation and transfer of funds to Ukraine Russia.
In addition, we previously reported that the Pentagon commented on the statement of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who threatened strikes on "decision-making centers" because of HIMARS and Storm Shadow. The United States reminded him that Crimea is Ukraine.
