BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is facing allegations of sexual harassment of women wrestlers, will address a rally in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh today. His mega event is widely seen as a show of strength, while on the other hand, there is increasing pressure on his party to sack him. India's top wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have been protesting and demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The arrest of the MP, who has considerable political clout in Uttar Pradesh, has become a contentious issue. Last week, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had assured the wrestlers that the probe against them would be completed by June 15, but did not comment on their arrest. "We have assured that the investigation will be completed by June 15 and a chargesheet will be filed, while independent elections for the wrestling federation will be held by June 30," Union Minister Anurag Thakur said.

The meeting with the sports minister came days after the wrestlers met Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded a fair probe against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Amid a growing campaign for his arrest, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had last week denied all the allegations and said, "If even a single allegation is proved against me, I will hang myself.

At the same time, he also said that he is ready to get a narco test or polygraph test done. United World Wrestling (UWW) issued a statement condemning the detention of wrestlers and criticising the "lack of results" in the investigation against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
