Some of the country's top wrestlers have accused BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment. Without mentioning the protests by wrestlers, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh today began his speech at a rally in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, with a sentimental poem referring to love, betrayal and suffering. He claimed that next year the BJP will form a majority government.
At a rally organised as part of the BJP's 'Maha Sampark Abhiyan' for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, "Sometimes love, sometimes sorrow, sometimes poison is drunk. Then it is lived in the world. I got this love, my name is taken by calling it Bewafa. Call it a Russian that fame takes my name with its lips."
On the completion of nine years of the
Narendra Modi-led government, Singh attacked the Congress and said that Indian territory was occupied during the Congress rule and if PM Modi was in power at that time, he could have taken it back. "During the Congress era, Pakistan occupied 78,000 sq km of India's land when Jawaharlal Nehru was the PM. China invaded India in 1962 and still occupies 33,000 sq km of Indian land. In the 1972 war, India had 92,000 Pakistani POWs. It was an opportunity to get back the land (in exchange for the POWs) occupied by Pakistan. If there was a strong PM instead of Congress, if there was PM Modi, he would have definitely got back."
He also praised Pm Modi for the Kashmir decision, the construction of ram temple in Ayodhya, the rapid progress in the construction of roads, medical colleges, universities and indigenous defense. Brij Bhushan Singh's "Jan Chetna Maharally" was earlier scheduled for June 5 but was postponed due to "security reasons".
The protesting wrestlers on Saturday alleged that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was using his influence to put pressure on victims of sexual harassment and force them to change their statements.
They have threatened to launch an agitation once again if decisive action is not taken against them by June 15.
Ask for evidence from women wrestlers!
The Delhi Police has recorded statements of over 200 people in connection with the case. According to the assurance given by Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, the charge sheet in the case will be filed by June 15. Sources said the police have asked the women wrestlers, who have filed a sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, to produce pictures, videos or WhatsApp chats to support the allegations.
Demanding his arrest, the country's top wrestlers, including
Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have been protesting against Singh and have been continuously demanding his arrest for allegedly sexually harassing seven women athletes. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, and has even issued a statement refuting all the allegations. "If even one allegation is proved against me, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it in court and I am ready to accept any punishment."
