Virginia:Two people were killed and five others injured on Tuesday when a gunman opened fire at a park in Richmond, Virginia, police said. The shooting took place when the high school graduate students and their family members were leaving a theatre after the convocation ended. Police said the gunman opened fire indiscriminately, injuring several people.
Interim Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards and other officers told the media that police arrested a suspect, a 19-year-old man, and planned to charge him with two counts of second-degree murder, among other possible crimes.
The shooting took place outside the Altria Theatre on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, where a local high school graduation ceremony was being held. Edwards said the dead were men aged 18 and 36. He did not confirm the WWBT television news report that the victims were father and son.
Among the victims who were shot, a 31-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and four other men, aged 14, 32, 55 and 58, also sustained injuries, Edwards said. In addition, a 9-year-old girl was hit by a car in a stampede during the shooting, and several others were injured by the fall. Apart from this, many people are in panic.
