The stay of Ukrainian refugees in Poland is considered legal until March 4, 2024. The corresponding amendments to the special law on assistance to citizens of Ukraine were signed on May 29 by President Andrzej Duda.

On April 12, the Sejm of Poland voted to amend the law on assistance to citizens of Ukraine who left for Poland in connection with the war. After signing by the President, the following norms come into force:

The stay of Ukrainian citizens in Poland who legally moved to the country from February 24, 2022 will be legalized until March 4, 2024.

The stay of a child born on the territory of Poland is legal during the period of stay in the country of his/her mother.

The law also explains the stay of Ukrainians who have a Polish card and arrived in Poland after February 24, 2022, is considered legal until March 4, 2024. As well as the closest members of his family.

Some categories of Ukrainians will have the right to stay in Poland after March 4, 2024 – until August 31, 2024. The following rules apply to children and adults (also guardians of minors) who arrived in the country after February 24, 2022:

  • children attending preschool as of March 4, 2024;
  • children who receive school or other education – in Polish or Ukrainian schools, including remotely;
  • children from Ukraine who have started their studies at a gymnasium, lyceum or adult school no later than the 2022-2023 academic year.

Until September 30, 2024, students who take the matriculation exam are allowed to stay in Poland.

The period of stay of Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Poland before February 24, 2022 has been extended until August 24, 2023.

Meanwhile, Polish farmers blocked the movement of trucks from Ukraine through the Shehyni checkpoint. Passage of cars and buses is allowed.
