NATO member states can send troops to Ukraine. Such a decision can be made if Ukraine does not receive membership guarantees and security guarantees.

This was stated by the former head of the Alliance Andres Fogh Rasmussen in an interview with The Guardian.

"NATO member states can send troops to Ukraine if Ukraine does not receive membership guarantees and guarantees for the transition period at the summit of the Alliance," he stressed.

The most important summit of the Alliance is to take place in Vilnius on July 11.

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak reacted to the statement of the former head of NATO.

"I thank Anders Fogh Rasmussen for his position, as well as for publicly supporting the view that it is Ukraine dangerous to stay in the NATO reception indefinitely. It is very important that our country receives an invitation to join the Alliance," he said.

Yermak recalled the Kyiv Security Treaty, which contains proposals for security guarantees for Ukraine, which should become an intermediate stage before joining NATO. The agreement was presided over by the International Working Group on Security Guarantees for Ukraine, chaired by the Head of the Office of the President and Rasmussen.

It is impossible to build a new European security structure without Ukraine, Yermak said.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, after talks with Jens Stoltenberg, said that Ukraine does not wait for NATO troops to fight against Russian invaders, but seeks to obtain guarantees to prevent wars on its territory in the future.
