Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins believes that President Vladimir Putin can be thanked for "good work to unite Europe for the first time since 1945."

His statement at the Riga StratCom Dialogue 2023 conference on international strategic communications was quoted by the Latvian newspaper NRA.

"Some take democracy and freedom for granted: they say, it has always been so. The fact is that this almost never happened, and we must protect it," said the prime minister of the Baltic country.

At the same time, Kariņš stressed that "Ukrainian people are fighting and dying for freedom, democracy and values, while the West only talks about these values."

In this context, he noted that the West is "not a geographical entity, but a value one," and Putin "has done a good job uniting Europe for the first time since 1945."

The Latvian Prime Minister assured that his country is ready to help Ukraine until its victory, because "only the victory of Ukraine can bring peace."

Ukraine's integration into NATO, in his opinion, is the only way to ensure peace in Europe.

We will remind, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit of the European political community on June 1 said that Ukraine is ready to become a member of NATO.
