Residents of Kherson complain about the failed evacuation from flooded areas as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station. People themselves took up the rescue and take out the inhabitants of the flooded areas with their own boats, although most of the watercraft were taken from them by the Russian occupiers.

Olena Malyarenko, an ex-employee of the State Emergency Service, writer and resident of Kherson, told about this on the air of 1+1 within the framework of the United News telethon.

"People say there was no normal evacuation. Yesterday, people from the streets called the authorities and said: "We can't, our car has already sunk. We took people out ourselves. The car simply "choked" with water. We can't take it out anymore. Send someone." And no one was sent. My house, by the way, is also now covered with water," Malyarenko described the situation.

She said that people in whom the boats remained risked their lives and are now trying to swim to the left bank on their own to save the inhabitants there.

"On the left bank, the situation is critical. The oleshky opposite us are covered with water: people are sitting on rooftops. And the boats were confiscated from us by the Russians when they left in November 2022. We have a very difficult time with watercraft, they are practically non-existent. Those who hid the watercraft are now engaged in evacuating people on their own," said a resident of Kherson.

Malyarenko, who previously worked in the State Emergency Service, assessed the evacuation as a failure.

"

I don't know what the government is doing. I am a former civil protection specialist and, sorry for this assessment, the evacuation failed. If they knew at three o'clock in the morning (June 6 - ed.) that such a tragedy had happened, at five in the morning loudspeakers should have already worked on Kherson and evacuation measures should begin. They began at nine: they began to massively inform us that Kherson is under the threat of flooding," a resident of Kherson recounted the events.

"There is no Internet in half of the city, so the speech of Mr. Prokudin, the head of the OVA, which he made on the Internet at seven in the morning, was heard by a third of the city. Grandparents did not hear his fiery address," she added.

Recall that as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station by Russians on June 6, water began to flood the territory of the Kherson region, so evacuation started in the region. In general, from 35 to 80 settlements can be under water. On the evening of June 6, the most difficult situation was in the Korabelny district of Kherson, where more than 1000,<> houses were flooded.

The head of Kherson regional administration Oleksandr Prokudin on the morning of June 7 reported 1852 flooded houses on the right bank of the region and 1457 evacuated local residents.

According to OVA estimates, the water level in the Kherson region will reach a critical point over the next 20 hours, after which it will decline.
