President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station, the situation in the occupied Kherson region was difficult. The Russians have abandoned people to their fate, and if Ukrainian rescuers try to help, the Russians open fire.
He said this in an interview with the German edition of Bild.
The President stressed that Ukraine had warned the world community that Russian terrorists could blow up the Kakhovka HPP. He noted that the actions of the occupiers did not surprise him.
"We are no longer surprised by anything that Russia is doing. Torture, rape, it was all there. This is their way of waging war," the president said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that it was very difficult to evacuate people from the flooded left bank of the Kherson region, as the occupying army immediately began shelling Ukrainian rescuers.
"Russians are shelling Ukrainian rescuers. People and animals died. From the roofs of flooded houses, people see drowned people floating. That's what you see on the other side. It is very difficult to evacuate people from the occupied part of the Kherson region. "When our forces try to evacuate people, they are shot by the occupiers from afar. We will be able to see all the consequences only in a few days, when the water comes down a little," the president explained.
