On Tuesday evening, June 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the world amid ecocide caused by the blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station by Russian invaders.

This was reported by the press service of the President's Office.

"I appeal to everyone in the world who values life. Today, on our Ukrainian land, the Russian occupiers have committed the greatest crime of ecocide, and not only during this war, but for decades. The virtually destroyed Kakhovka reservoir is one of the largest in Ukraine. 18 billion cubic meters of water. All the facilities of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, its dam were located in the occupied territory, under full control of the Russian occupiers," the president said.

He noted that Ukraine had information about the mining of the Kakhovka HPP by the occupiers last fall. The Russians did this on purpose - to blackmail the world and use floods as weapons. Now in the flood zone are areas where more than 100,<> people lived before the war, and now at least tens of thousands of people remain there.

"The Kakhovka reservoir provided drinking water to most of Ukraine – cities and villages with hundreds of thousands of people. In addition, it provided water to farmers and agricultural production in the south and center of Ukraine. Also, the destruction of the dam and reservoir is a man-made blow to the environment, after which nature will have to recover for decades," Zelensky said.

The evacuation of people in almost 80 settlements that were at risk of flooding continues. A stain of petroleum products was formed – at least 150 tons, which the current carries to the Black Sea. It remains to be seen how many chemicals, fertilizers and petroleum products will enter rivers and the sea.

"Several things are obvious today. First, such a crime of ecocide could not have happened simply as a result of shelling a dam. To destroy it, Russian forces needed to act consciously – to mine, blow up, destroy. Secondly, no country in the world should be left alone against such terror, and I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine! Third, we need an immediate and maximum reaction of the world to Russian terror. From the UN Security Council to every international institution," the Ukrainian leader said.

Zelensky stressed that the deliberate destruction of the hydroelectric dam by terrorists looks the same from all points of view in the world. For Africa, for Europe, and for the United States, and for China, and for Australia, and for India, man-made disasters are evil.

"We must stop Russian evil. All other terrorists in the world must see that terror is punishable by the world. We must stop Russian evil. All other terrorists in the world must see terror punished by the world," he concluded.

The President added that the faster the de-occupation, the faster security will return.

Earlier we reported that American leader Joe Biden commented on the blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station by the Russian occupation army. He stressed that the United States will not leave Ukraine in trouble.
