New Delhi: Fifteen people were arrested following a clash between medical students and private security guards staying in a hostel on the state-run Gautam Buddh University campus in Greater Noida, police said on Sunday. Officials gave this information on Monday. Those arrested included 15 guards of a private security agency and four students of the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), he said. Earlier, the police had detained 11 people after the clash on Sunday night.

The students, who were staying in the Munshi Premchand hostel of the university, were allegedly smoking cigarettes, which was resisted by the security personnel, a police spokesman said. "There was an altercation between the two sides around 33.<> pm on Sunday and then a clash broke out. After getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and detained <> people. Both sides have lodged complaints with the police."

The incident took place in Ecotech-One area and senior officials are investigating the matter and more people are likely to be detained, he said.

Meanwhile, at a press conference on Monday afternoon, GIMS officials said 22 students sustained injuries in the clash and four of them have been hospitalised.
