President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the soldiers of the Armed Forces fighting in the Bakhmut direction. He stressed that he was grateful to them for the news.

He said this on June 5 during his address to Ukrainians.

"First of all, I am grateful to each of our warriors, all our defenders who gave exactly the news we expect for this day. Bakhmut direction – well done, warriors! We see how hysterically Russia perceives any of our steps there, all our positions. The enemy knows that Ukraine will win. They see it. They feel it thanks to your strikes, warriors, and in particular in the Donetsk region. Thank you for that!" the president said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted several units that protect Ukraine from the occupiers.

"Today I want to emphasize several of our combat units. This is the 5th separate assault brigade and the 57th separate motorized infantry brigade, which skillfully, decisively and effectively defend our positions, destroy the invaders and, most importantly, move forward. Thank you, warriors! Thank you all!" he said.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar announced offensive actions. She reported on successes in the Bakhmut direction.
