On June 5, the chairman of the National Assembly, Sahib Qafarova, met with a delegation headed by Julius Joel Edelstein, chairman of the Israeli Knesset's Foreign Relations and Defense Committee.
According to a report to the EPA from the Department of Press and Public Relations of the National Assembly, the chairman of the National Assembly expressed his satisfaction with greeting guests in the Azerbaijani parliament and said that Azerbaijan and Israel were friendly and cooperative countries.
Spiker Sahiba Qafarova pointed out that active political dialogue, high-level trips, and meetings between our countries have played an important role in the development of relations. Sahiba Qafarova highly appreciated President Isaac Herzog's first official visit to Azerbaijan in May and expressed confidence that the trip would greatly contribute to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Israel. Spiker also pointed out that the opening of Azerbaijan's embassy in Israel this year will contribute to improving relations between the two countries and creating broad opportunities for cooperation.
At the meeting, Sahiba Qafarova said that Jews and Azeris had lived in peace, friendship, and mutual understanding for centuries. Today, the Jewish community is actively involved in the social and political life of our country. He pointed out that the Jewish community is surrounded by the attention and care of the state. There are synagogues and Jewish schools in Azerbaijan. At the same time, our Jewish-speaking citizens in Israel also contribute greatly to the development of relations between our countries.
The chairman of the National Assembly has greatly appreciated the work of mutual friendship groups in both parliaments and the trips of members of parliament, citing the positive role inter-parliamentary relations play in the development of bilateral relations. Spiker Sahiba Qafarova emphasized the national assembly's willingness to expand cooperation with the Knesset. He has also said that increasing contacts and expanding cooperation between parliamentary committees, along with friendship groups, will serve to deepen ties between our legislative bodies.
Julius Joel Edelstein, chairman of the Israeli Knesset's Foreign Relations and Defense Committee, thanked the hospitality shown and shared his good impressions of his trip to our country.
He said that Israel considered Azerbaijan a friendly country. The chairman of the committee expressed satisfaction with the development of our relations on a high-level basis, stressing that cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan serves the interests of our peoples and the development of peace and cooperation. He reminded Israeli President Isaiah Herzog of his trip to our country late last month that it would further promote relations between our countries. Emphasizing the importance of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Israel, the guest said that it plays an important role in further expanding our relationship.
Julius Joel Edelstein noted that our countries have successful cooperation in a number of areas, and he said that further development of relations between our parliaments plays a unique role in deepening relations between Azerbaijan and Israel.
The meeting also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
