The Washington Post well-known journalist David Ignatius said that US President Joe Biden probably believes that Russia's war against Ukraine should end in negotiations. However, they believe that Ukraine should return its territories.

He said this in an interview with TSN.

"I believe President Biden continues to believe that the war must end and end with negotiations. That there will be no end on the battlefield by a decisive victory or unconditional surrender of one side or another. The Second World War ended like this - Germany unconditionally capitulated, Japan unconditionally capitulated. I don't think many believe that Russia under Vladimir Putin will unconditionally lay down its arms. Instead, there will be some negotiations. And Ukraine will have the right to decide what kind of peace will be fair for it. Russian aggression should not be rewarded," the American journalist said.

David Ignatius stressed that the most important thing now is whether Ukraine will be able to throw back the invaders from all territories. Then Russia can get scared and agree to negotiations.

"The administration has clear convictions on this. Whether the entire territory that belongs to Ukraine will be restored immediately after the end of the war, whether there will be a process leading to this recovery, is one of the issues that, in my opinion, is quietly discussed. I talked about this with Ukrainian officials. I spoke with U.S. officials. We'll see. The most important thing we're talking about right now is Ukraine's ability to push back the Russians, break through the front to tell the Russians you can't win. And we can take Crimea, we will go so far that Crimea will be at risk. And at the moment when Russia is really afraid of what might happen next, perhaps the moment for negotiations will come. We'll see," a journalist told The Washington Post.

David Ignatius believes that the interests of Ukraine and the United States are not identical.

"There is a great partnership between the United States and Ukraine, but the interests of Ukraine and the interests of the United States are not identical. In the coming months, we'll see how big these differences are. President Zelensky in his peace plan talks about the restoration of the entire territory," he said.

The journalist stressed that the United States has made political commitments to return the occupied territories to Ukraine, but it is not known how this will happen.

"This is also the official position of the United States - we have never recognized Russia's annexation of Crimea or its invasion of Donbas and have made political commitments to return this territory to Ukraine. When will this happen? In what way? Will this happen with the breakthrough of Ukrainian troops through Donbas to the border with Russia? Perhaps. Will this happen with the advance of Ukrainian troops through Crimea to Sevastopol? Perhaps. Or maybe not, maybe there's an alternative formula. We'll see," he said.

We will remind, the well-known journalist of The Washington Post David Ignatius told how the United States makes decisions to help Ukraine in the war against the Russian invaders. He stressed that President Biden uses four principles.
