In May, the Russian army attacked Kyiv with missiles and Iranian drones almost every night. Russia began preparing for massive rocket attacks two months ago – in March.

This was told in an interview with "Obozrevatel" by reserve officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military expert Andriy Kramarov.

According to him, Russia has two main goals that it wants to achieve, in particular, by strikes on Kyiv. The first is the desire to prevent the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The second is the terror of civilians due to loss on the battlefield.

"The last massive shelling before these attacks took place on the night of March 9. And then the invaders began to accumulate. Also, if you look at the February statistics of our Main Directorate of Intelligence, we will see a certain stock, including cruise missiles, which remained with the occupiers. In addition, there was information that on the production lines of air-launched cruise missiles Kh-101 and Kh-555, launched from Tu-95MS aircraft, these missiles were trying to simplify somewhat and make a variant like the Kh-50 missile. This is quite an interesting missile – a Soviet simplified version of the Kh-555, developed for the Cold War," he explained.

According to Andriy Kramarov, the enemy wants to create a picture of "destroyed Ukraine" so that Kyiv sit down at the negotiating table.

"Our officials, our military-political leadership openly say that Ukrainian offensive will begin soon. Our Western partners are also talking about this, announcing its success. As I understand it, the enemy also has some intelligence, which reports on a certain stage of readiness of the Ukrainian army. Therefore, over the past month, all the enemy's efforts have been aimed primarily at disrupting our counteroffensive... They have an idea fix: to create a picture of destroyed Kyiv to show the whole world that allegedly they can destroy the whole country, and therefore Ukraine should sit down at the negotiating table," the officer said.

To recap, the Air Force said that during the attack on Ukraine on the night of June 4, two missiles hit the airfield near Kropyvnytskyi.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military used five Iranian strike drones "Shahed-136/131" from the territory of the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation and six air-launched cruise missiles Kh-101/Kh-555 from six strategic bombers Tu-95MS from the Caspian region.
