Today (4th) marks the 34th anniversary of June Fourth, marking the fourth consecutive year that Victoria Park has had no candlelight evening. The U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau posted a photo on its social media page at about 8 p.m., from which it can be seen that a batch of electronic candles were placed on each window sill in the consulate.


About half an hour ago, at about 7:6 p.m., the EU Office in Hong Kong and Macau also shared a photo on its social media page showing photos of 4 and <> electronic candles in front of the window of their office. Consuls General of European countries in Hong Kong visited Victoria Park in the evening, including the Consuls General of Sweden and Ireland in Hong Kong.

The U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau posted a candlelight photo on its social media page this morning and replaced it with a cover photo. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was quoted as saying, "We will not forget the courage of those who died that day, and the United States continues to work tirelessly to advocate for human rights and fundamental freedoms in China and around the world."

At about 8 p.m. this evening, the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau distributed another photo on a special page, and it can be seen that every window of the consulate is also filled with electronic candles.

At 7:6 p.m., the EU office in Hong Kong and Macau also posted a photo on its Facebook page, showing photos of six and four electronic candles displayed in the office, and wrote that "commemorating the 4th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square incident on June 1989, 6" and stating that the EU will firmly defend human rights.

A number of European Consuls General in Hong Kong, including Per Augustsson, Consul General of Sweden in Hong Kong, and David Costello, Consul General of Ireland in Hong Kong, did not respond to media enquiries in the evening.
