In Germany, in Thuringia, there was a fire in a refugee camp where 245 people lived. A child died at the scene of the tragedy. Probably, this is a 9-year-old boy from Ukraine, who is considered missing until the examination.

According to police, the fire broke out on June 4 at 5 am local time (3:00 Kyiv time) in the city of Apolda, in eastern Thuringia. The body of a child was found there, another 10 people were injured. In total, 245 people lived in the shelter.

Eyewitnesses say that the flames reached several meters in height. Police said the cause of the fire was unknown, but an investigation was underway "in full swing".

Residents of the shelter who were rescued by firefighters were taken to another refugee reception center in nearby Hermsdorf. They were accompanied by police officers and interpreters.

A 9-year-old boy from Ukraine is considered missing. Authorities said a forensic examination would be needed to determine whether the body found in the building was a missing boy. Police are awaiting autopsy results no earlier than Monday. Another 10 people with various injuries were hospitalized.

Thuringian Interior Minister Georg Maier expressed concern about the "terrible news" in Apolda.

"My thoughts are with the parents and relatives of the deceased child," he said.

Migration Minister Doreen Danstedt also visited the scene to meet with victims and police. Federal Home Minister Nancy Feser said federal security agencies were ready to assist Thuringian authorities.

According to the German newspaper stern.de, according to a police representative, the fire occurred in the residential part of the apartment, the reason is still unclear. Investigators looking for the source of the fire to determine the cause of the fire.

According to the report, the facility is permanent housing for long-term stays, not a temporary accommodation center for refugees. The former school was converted and prepared for permanent residence. Refugees of different nationalities lived there.
