(CNN Spanish) – This Friday CNN en Español exclusively recorded the images of the departure of Joran Van der Sloot from the Challapalca prison in Tacna, Peru, to another prison in Lima, from where he will later be handed over to US authorities for transfer to that country.

The footage shows Van der Sloot leaving the inmates' cell area, being searched and handcuffed before being taken to an office where he signs some documents and is evaluated by a prison doctor. After that, he gets into a vehicle of the National Penitentiary Institute in which he was transferred by land, around 11 pm, local time, to the maximum security prison Ancón I, in Lima.

Van der Sloot, one of the last people to see American Natalee Holloway alive, will be handed over to Interpol Peru and then to US authorities to be prosecuted for the alleged crimes of fraud and extortion against Elizabeth Holloway, Natalee's mother. The citizen of the Netherlands is serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru to which he was sentenced in 2012 for murdering 21-year-old Stephany Flores in 2010.

Challapalca, where Van der Sloot was located, is one of the 3 maximum security prisons in Peru and is located in the south, in the Tacna region, at more than 4,500 meters above sea level and with temperatures below zero degrees Celsius at night.
