The Chinese warship on Saturday, June 3, staged a provocation with the American destroyer USS Chung-Hoon in the Taiwan Strait – it twice approached the US ship, creating a threat of collision.

The video of the incident was published by Global News.

The provocation occurred during a joint US-Canadian mission in the Taiwan Strait, which, according to the statement of the Indo-Pacific Command, was conducted in accordance with international law.

It is reported that the destroyer Chung-Hoon and the Canadian frigate HMCS Montreal, without violating international law, carried out a planned crossing from south to north of the Taiwan Strait through waters where "freedom of navigation and passage on the high seas applies."

"During transit, the Chinese destroyer NOAC (N) LUYANG III performed dangerous maneuvers in the Chung-Hoon area. The vessel overtook the Chung-Hoon starboard and crossed its bow at a distance of 150 yards (137 meters - ed.). The destroyer Chung-Hoon maintained course and slowed down," the command said in a statement.

For the second time, a Chinese ship crossed the course of an American destroyer from starboard to left at a distance of 2000,1828 yards (<> meters) and remained on the side of her starboard.

The Pentagon criticized China for such provocations, and Beijing accused the United States of trying to "destabilize" the Indo-Pacific region.

"They are not here for peaceful passage, they are here for provocation," Chinese Defense Minister Li Shanfu said, commenting on the incident.
