Ukrainian forces in the capital Kiev said they shot down more than 30 Russian missiles and drones overnight and that two people were injured in the fall of debris before authorities lifted air alerts across much of the country.

Since the beginning of May, Russia has carried out about 20 separate missile strikes and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.

Military authorities in Kiev wrote in Telegram that Russia fired cruise missiles and carried out drone attacks at the same time.

"According to preliminary information, more than 30 air targets of various types were intercepted and destroyed in the airspace above and around Kiev by air defense forces," they said.

The mayor of Kiev attacked the capital in two waves.

Ukraine's military said Russia fired 15 missiles and 18 drones.

Authorities in the Kiev region said two people were injured as a result of falling debris, one of whom was a child.

"In addition, falling debris damaged five private homes," the state administration said.

Ukraine regularly says its defenses destroy most of the missiles and drones that Russian forces use in their attacks.
