This comes hours after Russia launched a new series of missile attacks on Ukraine.

Moscow has carried out about 20 separate missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities since early May.

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Klitschko, who earlier reported two separate attacks overnight, wrote in Telegram that there had been no calls to rescue services as a result of the latest Russian attacks. Ukraine regularly says its defenses shoot down most Russian missiles and drones.

Reuters reported earlier that air defenses in Kiev were triggered early this morning, trying to repel Russian attacks. The agency refers to separate statements in Telegram by the mayor of the Ukrainian capital and the military.

"There are explosions in the city. Air defense has been activated," Klitschko said earlier, adding that a new wave of drones was heading for the city.
