The United States rejected calls from other countries for a ceasefire in Ukraine. They say this can lead to an illusory peace.

This was stated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, writes The Washington Post.

According to Blinken, calls for a truce or territorial concessions to Ukraine will help Russian dictator Vladimir Putin justify armed aggression, so he rejected any calls for concessions.

Blinken rejected any calls for concessions to Ukraine on "land in exchange for peace" formulas. He warned that such prospects would represent an illusory so-called "Potemkin peace."

"A ceasefire that simply freezes existing lines in place – and allows Putin to consolidate control over captured territory, rest, rearm and attack again – is not a just and lasting peace. It will legitimize Russia's land grab. He will reward the aggressor and punish the victim," the Secretary of State said.

Blinken added that such prospects would represent an illusory so-called "Potemkin peace."

Recall that the United States of America continues to provide Ukraine with weapons. In particular, President Joe Biden has a growing desire to cross "red lines".
