New Delhi:

In Sri Lanka, 35 patients have been diagnosed with eye infection due to Indian eye drops. After this, the investigation of the Indian-made drug has started. Sources in the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) said that the drug of the Gujarat-based pharma company is being tested. There have been complaints that bacterial infection has increased in patients after using Eye Drops. In March this year, the company exported two large batches of eyedrops to Sri Lanka, but in April, about 30 people complained of eye infection after taking the medicine at three major hospitals there.

After this, the Sri Lankan government not only immediately banned the drug, but also started an investigation against it. Meanwhile, the company also withdrew its medicines. On May 16, the Sri Lankan government wrote a letter urging India to conduct an impartial investigation, warning that the pharma industry was linked to the country's reputation. If quality is compromised, it will not be good for the country and it will never be tolerated.

A senior
health ministry official said that after receiving the letter from Sri Lanka, instructions have been given to immediately test the medicine. The current batch of the company has been sealed. The samples have been sent to the central laboratory, from where the report is expected in 10 to 15 days.

This is the fourth such case in nine months, when questions have been raised about the quality of Indian medicines at the international level. Earlier, cough syrups of Indian companies were blamed for the deaths of children in Gambia and Uzbekistan. Due to which questions were raised about the quality of the Indian pharma sector at the international level. A similar case was reported in the Marshall Islands and Micronesia, after which the WHO issued an alert in April.
