German investigators investigating the explosions of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea searched homes in the city of Frankfurt am Oder last week, the federal prosecutor's office said today.

The premises are owned by a man who is not suspected of last year's blasts. He is a former partner of one of the suspects in the case, a spokeswoman for the Karlsruhe-based prosecutor's office said.

New traces in the investigation of the Nord Stream explosion lead to Ukraine

At the end of September, four leaks from the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, built to transport gas directly from Russia to Germany, were discovered near the Danish island of Bornholm.

On October 10, the German federal prosecutor's office opened an investigation on suspicion that the explosions were caused intentionally.

German media traced the blasts to Ukraine, claiming that strawmen existed. The reports also mention a person who may be connected to the Ukrainian military, DPA notes.

Neither the German government nor the prosecutor's office has commented on these reports.
