Chandigarh:

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take action against minister Lal Chand Kataruchak who is facing charges of "sexual misconduct". Accusing the minister of committing a "heinous crime", the governor said he had no right to continue in the cabinet. Earlier, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had issued a notice to the Punjab government following a complaint of "sexual misconduct" lodged against Kataruchak by a male victim from Gurdaspur.

The Punjab Police then formed a three-member Special Investigation Team to probe the allegation of "sexual misconduct" against the minister. "Don't forget this," the governor told reporters here. It is a heinous crime, which has been committed by him (Kataruch). "I want to bring it to the notice of the chief minister again through you (media) that immediate action should be taken against this minister," he said.

The Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government has been facing criticism over the issue with opposition parties demanding action against Kataruchak.
