The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada announced the imposition of sanctions against seven individuals and one legal entity of Moldova. The restrictions were a response to Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine

This was reported in the government of Canada on June 1.

In particular, Ottawa's sanctions are aimed at Moldovan oligarchs, businessmen, parliamentarians and politicians associated with Russia. The restrictions also apply to Shor's party, which is closely linked to Ilan Shor, who has been implicated in destabilizing the democratically elected Moldovan government in favor of the Kremlin.

"As Russia threatens to use its presence on Moldovan territory to drag the country into an aggressive war against Ukraine, these new sanctions will undermine Russia's efforts to limit the Moldovan national government in exercising full sovereignty over its territory," the Canadian department said.

By the way, this is not the first time Canada has imposed sanctions against Russian collaborators in Moldova in accordance with the commitment made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the visit of Moldovan President Maia Sandu in May 2023.

As reported, the Japanese government announced a new package of sanctions against Russia. It includes 17 people and 78 companies from the Russian Federation, as well as 7 citizens of Ukraine who assist Russians in the occupation.
