(CNN) -- President Joe Biden tripped over a sandbag and fell as he completed the presentation of diplomas at the graduation ceremony of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado on Thursday.

Biden appeared fine after the fall, walking unaided to his seat in the bleachers. He was seen smiling and jogging towards his vehicle at the end of the ceremony.

After the fall, the White House said the president is doing well.

The stumble occurred as Biden jogged away from center stage, where he had previously given a speech honoring the academy's graduates.

President Joe Biden tripped during a rally on Thursday.

As he walked to his seat, Biden pointed to the ground where he tripped, indicating that something had gotten in his way. Video from the moment showed sandbags placed in front of the podium near where Biden had been standing.

The president returned to his seat in the stands unaided and was in good spirits at the conclusion of the ceremony.

"He's fine. There was a sandbag on stage as he waved," communications director Ben LaBolt wrote on Twitter.

Biden is 80 years old, making him the nation's oldest president.

Earlier, Biden had told graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy that they were entering a rapidly changing world, and emphasized the critical role of U.S. support for its allies and partners and emphasized continued U.S. assistance to Ukraine.

Biden said cadets will have "a lot to deal with" when they enter service amid a changing world with "proliferating" global challenges, from Russia's invasion of Ukraine to strategic competition with China, as well as climate change and artificial intelligence.

And he emphasized how America's global partnerships are a "sign of strength" and praised the "incredible" people of Ukraine.

"The American people's support for Ukraine will not cease. We always defend democracies, always," Biden said to applause.
