After several months of maintenance, at the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant in Matanzas, checks are being carried out to synchronize its unit block, the largest and most efficient in the country, with the national electricity system, informed engineer Lázaro Guerra Hernández, technical director of the Electric Union (UNE).

In statements to the Cuban television information system, Guerra Hernández said that during the reviews carried out on Wednesday the behavior of the block was positive in general, although it takes about four days for the necessary adjustments in the lubrication system.

According to a report by the newspaper Granma, once the block is operational, the delivery of some 230 megawatts (MW) will increase the country's generation capacity at a crucial moment, the beginning of the summer stage.

Engineer Rubén Campos Olmos, general director of Guiteras, explained that the greatest weight of the maintenance work was in the repair of the low pressure cylinder of the turbine.

Other actions involved replacing pipes, working on air heaters and 110 and 220 kV outlet towers. In addition, other work was carried out on the boiler and on vital plant equipment and objects, including the collection of materials and the cleaning of areas.

Campos Olmos announced that the works for capital maintenance will continue, scheduled before the end of the year, although the priority is to keep the block online during the summer months, when temperatures are higher and electricity consumption is higher.
