The SBU exposed a traitor from Bakhmut who collaborated with Russian intelligence. He was recruited before the start of a full-scale war, at first the collaborator "leaked" to the occupiers the consequences of strikes on Bakhmut, and later mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, a resident of Bakhmut was recruited by Nikita Klimovsky, an agent of the 72nd Intelligence Center of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (better known as the GRU), before the start of a full-scale war. After February 24, 2022, the Russian agent informed the Russians about the consequences of missile strikes on Bakhmut. He also gave the occupiers the coordinates of bridge crossings in Bakhmut and on the outskirts.

After that, the GRU ordered the man to leave for the Dnipropetrovsk region and mobilize to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which he did.

"After enrolling in one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy agent collected information on the number of personnel and available weapons in the units. The defendant also gave the aggressor information about possible visits to the garrison of representatives of the high command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the statement reads.

The SBU is also checking whether the suspect prepared sabotage against the military leadership of the state. Also, the traitor had to transfer to the occupiers the locations of air defense systems and modern weapons that came to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After that, a resident of Bakhmut was detained.

"It was established that their accomplice used the Telegram messenger to communicate with the military intelligence of the Russian Federation. During the searches, two mobile phones were found in the defendant's possession, one of which he used only to communicate with his GRU handler. Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 (treason committed under martial law). He is currently in custody. The attacker faces life imprisonment," the SBU said.

As a reminder, in the Volyn region, a 12-year-old resident of Bukovina, who fought against Ukraine in Donbas, was sentenced to 31 years in prison, but in 2022 he returned back to allegedly "join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
