The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation accused Apple of allegedly spying for American intelligence.

It is reported by the Russian Air Force service with reference to the FSB of Russia.

"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation together with the FSO of Russia disclosed an intelligence action of American special services conducted using mobile devices of Apple (USA)," the FSB said.

They claim that Russian intelligence has identified "anomalies characteristic only of users of Apple mobile phones and caused by the operation of previously unknown malware (SPZ) that exploits software vulnerabilities provided by the manufacturer."

According to the FSB, several thousand smartphones and even allegedly subscribers outside the Russian Federation were infected.

"In addition to domestic subscribers, facts of infection of foreign numbers and subscribers who use SIM-cards registered at diplomatic missions and embassies in Russia, including countries of the NATO bloc and the post-Soviet space, as well as Israel, the SAR and the PRC, were revealed," the Russian FSB said.

Russian intelligence agencies believe that this allegedly should indicate "close cooperation between Apple and the US National Security Agency," as well as that "the company's declared privacy policy does not correspond to reality."

Russian officials have long questioned the security of U.S. technology. Putin has even repeatedly stated that he does not have a smartphone, although the Kremlin claims that he occasionally uses the internet.

It should be added that the Kremlin previously demanded that officials involved in preparations for the 2024 presidential election stop using iPhones because of fears that the devices are vulnerable to Western intelligence services.

Recall that after the start of a full-scale invasion, Apple was one of the first to stop selling its products in Russia. Subsequently, the company severed ties with Russian payment cards "Mir" and completely removed them as an option in Apple Pay. Subsequently, popular Russian applications were even removed from the Apple Store.
