The Prime Minister was requested to visit Bihar during the Mahasampark Abhiyan

To be filled:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given in-principle approval to visit Bihar next month to boost the party's outreach programme, its Bihar unit president Samrat Chaudhary said on Wednesday. Chaudhary said the date has not been confirmed yet. However, the tour will take place during the state-wide mahasampark abhiyan, which began on Wednesday and will conclude on June 30.

"As stated recently, we had requested the Prime Minister to visit Bihar during the Mahasampark Abhiyan. We have got in-principle approval. We will share further details once the date is finalised."

Significantly, less than a year is left for the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance had won all but one of the 2019 Lok Sabha seats in the state in 40, but the party has been facing a tough phase in Bihar since it was voted out of power in August last year.

Deprived of a strong state-level leadership in Bihar, the BJP was strengthened by winning in alliance with the chief minister and his party Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) and is currently heavily dependent on the prime minister's charisma to build its grip against the ruling 'grand alliance'. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA had won 40 of the 39 seats in Bihar, with the JD(U) winning 16.
