Amrendu Prakash on Wednesday took over as the Chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Prior to being sail chairman, he was director-in-charge of Bokaro Steel Plant. Prakash is a metallurgical engineer from BIT Sindri. Prakash joined SAIL in 1991 as a management trainee (technical). He served in various capacities at various plants and units of SAIL. In 2020, he joined sail's board and took over as director in-charge of the Bokaro plant.
Prakash is a skilled technocrat. He has more than three decades of experience in SAIL. Prakash has experience of operating a large steel plant with plant operations at shop level, corporate activities at SAIL headquarters and mining operations. He was a member of the team leading SAIL's business transformation and financial turnaround in 2015-17. After becoming the director in-charge of the Bokaro plant, he led the plant team to outstanding performance year after year.
During this period, better performance was recorded both quantitatively and qualitatively. He was successful in bringing about significant change with his important organizational and strategic planning skills. He has a special contribution to business processes and project implementation. He is a technically skilled leader. He is leading the company's digitisation efforts. Prakash has been a key member of the Business Maximizing team. He played a key role in strategizing the overall production and sales plan to add value not only to the organization but also to the customers.
