Ukraine's victory in the war will be different from total defeat, it was with Nazi Germany after World War II, says American political philosopher Francis Fukuyama.

Fukuyama told about this in an interview with NV.

A political philosopher from the United States answered the question of how he sees Ukraine's victory in the war, and what needs to be done to call it a real victory.

"I think that even for the most patriotic Ukrainian, there is no victory like the one that the Allies won over Germany and Japan: when a country is bombed and miserable, and, you know, foreign troops then occupy its territory," Fukuyama said.

In his opinion, Russia will not repeat the fate of Germany and Japan after the Second World War, because "no one is going to go to Moscow" and occupy it.

"Therefore, you will not get a defeat for Russia in this sense. And I think that in a world where there are nuclear weapons, you cannot defeat a nuclear power as you defeated Germany," the philosopher said.

Instead, he noted, "victory should be much more partial." In particular, we are talking about the expulsion of Russians from the Ukrainian territories occupied after 2014.

"This is probably the amount of victory that can reasonably be hoped. And if that happens, it will still be very important because Putin has built all his legitimacy on seizing territory from Ukraine," Fukuyama said.

According to him, this will be a very good development for democracy, and bad for Putin.

Recall, according to US Senator Lindsey Graham, Ukraine will be able to oust Russian troops from its territories by the end of 2023. Graham also warned the Russians that they would face a "rough awakening" during a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian armed forces, whose plan is impressive.

It should be noted that adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak said that the war unleashed by Putin is spreading to the territory of Russia, and "scaling will be exponential."
