Cuban writers and artists denounced on Wednesday a defamatory campaign against the poet Nancy Morejón through a statement read by the president of the Association of Writers of UNEAC, Alberto Marrero, and broadcast live on YouTube.

"Invited to the 2023 Poetry Market in Paris [which will take place between June 7 and 12], those who align themselves on the side of those who hate and undo, pressured the organizers of the event so that Nancy was deprived of the status of honorary president of the event, investiture with which they did justice to a work of international resonance," Marrero said.

To achieve that purpose, the French Pen Club and some of its followers "appealed to tired platitudes in the attacks against artists and intellectuals who live and work among us, who do not forgive fidelity and dedication to their people and culture."

The president of the Association of Writers of UNEAC, Alberto Marrero, concluded the statement by highlighting that "Cuban writers and artists repudiate any attempt to disqualify Nancy's poetic and human trajectory and express our solidarity support for the distinguished creator. Nothing can hate Cuban poetry and culture."
