Families affected during the passage of Hurricane Ian through Pinar del Río, in September 2022, will receive a donation of food from Algeria, valued at half a million dollars and which will be distributed in the municipalities most affected by the meteorological event.

According to the Algerian ambassador to Cuba, Abdelkrim Benchiah, the donation represents solidarity and support for the island for the damage caused by the hurricane.

Benchiah highlighted the historic relations that both nations have maintained for more than 70 years.

The cargo contains 9,900 bottles of vegetable oil, more than nine tons of long pasta and 10 tons of short pasta, 21.3 tons of rice and 16,500 cans of tomato puree, the general director of the Food Wholesale Company of Pinar del Río, Rainier Lores Riverón, told ACN.

He said that some 46.5 tons of wheat flour are included, which will be destined to the production of biscuits and breads.
