The European Parliament's Monitoring Group for Democracy, the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights is demanding information on the development of the 2020 Barcelona Gate investigation.

This was stated by the MEP from the group of Socialists and Democrats Elena Yoncheva - the only representative from Bulgaria in the structure composed of 14 MEPs. Among the powers of the group is to monitor respect for the rule of law and democratic principles in the Member States.

It is pointed out that at the initiative of Yoncheva, Bulgaria has been under the supervision of the group since the summer of 2020, and "Barcelonagate" has been in the focus of attention of MEPs since September 2020, when questions were sent to the Bulgarian authorities about this case, as well as about the photos with the bars and bundles in the drawer of the then Prime Minister Boyko Borisov Boyko Metodiev Borisovwas the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria.

In April this year, the monitoring group asked questions about progress on key corruption investigations, judicial reform, as well as the "Barcelonagate" of the Bulgarian authorities - the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor's Office. Among the answers provided by the prosecutor's office, there is no new information about the Barcelona Gate investigation, Yoncheva's office notes.
