The Argentine Rubén Fontana, pioneer in the professionalization of design received today the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Design, in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana, during this day.

The dean of the Higher Institute of Design (ISDI), Sergio Luis Peña Martínez, cataloged Fontana as a thorough man who has always been on the side of truth and reason.

He also stressed that the artist born in 1942 is the creator of the Biennial Typos Latinos, the main exhibition of Typographic Design in Latin America. He has also been a tenured professor at the University of Buenos Aires since 1985.

As part of his extensive career, he has maintained a close relationship with Cuba, being the only foreign creditor, in 2007, of the National Design Award, granted by the largest of the Antilles.

About Fontana, the dean of ISDI highlighted his work as a teacher in that faculty of the Havana house of higher studies, to which he ceded the reproduction rights of his work for bibliographic use.

Fontana has been a consultant for various works developed by the National Design Office and the Creative Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Council of State, of the image of Cuba and is the main advisor for the redesign of the newspaper Granma, he stressed.

Participating in the ceremony were: Reynaldo Velázquez, Vice Minister of Higher Education; Julio Emilio Morejón Pérez, national president of the University Student Federation; Sylvia Valenzuela, general secretary of the Latin American Union of University Extension, and representatives of the Embassy of Argentina in Cuba.

Rubén Fontana has also been awarded the recognition of the Work of Life by the National Fund for the Arts of the Argentine Republic, the Graphic Design Award of the Spanish Design Association and the Medal of Honor of the Type Director Club of New York, the main graphic design organization in the world.
