Have you ever flown in your sleep?.. Did they fall? What is this feeling that makes you wake up in the middle of the night?
The Mirror publishes an explanation of this phenomenon.
It turns out that more than 68% of people in the world have experienced random twitching, which is called "hypnagogic jerks". This name comes from the hypnagogic state, the transitional period between wakefulness and sleep. Such tremors usually include sudden, erratic movements (i.e., twitching or cramping) of the arms, legs, or entire body.
A new study has found that women experience twitching more often than men. And 82% of people are aged 16-25 years.
"From the point of view of medicine, hypnagogic jerks are classified as a type of short-term involuntary twitching or twitching of a muscle group. They tend to occur during the transition between the first and second stages of the sleep cycle, as that's when your muscles begin to relax and your heartbeat slows down."
The exact mechanisms that cause twitching in sleep are not fully understood, but it is believed that various factors, including caffeine consumption, physical and emotional stress, can increase their frequency.
And some scientists believe that the brain misinterprets the state of your body when you start sleeping. He "thinks" that you are still awake, but notices that your muscles are not moving, so he sends signals to initiate them, causing your body to twitch.
Twitching in a dream: what to do when it happens
If you often experience hypnagogic jerks, the first thing you should do is start a journal to keep track of the nights with tremors in your sleep. Note down if you drank alcohol, caffeine the day before? Did you feel stressed? This should help you find out the cause of strange twitching in a dream and solve the problem.
Sleep experts also recommend not doing bedtime exercises, as this may be due to nocturnal muscle contractions. Instead, aim to finish your workout two to three hours before you try to fall asleep.
Recall also that approximately two billion cups of coffee people drink daily around the world.
