Two people have died and two more are missing after a tourist boat capsized in a severe storm in Lake Maggiore in northern Italy on Sunday, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Rescuers said the two bodies were found by divers who continue to search for the two missing, aided by a helicopter.

According to ANSA, there were 24 people on board, of whom 20 were rescued and are safe. However, authorities warn that these numbers have not been fully confirmed.

According to the president of the Italian region of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana, the incident was caused by a severe storm. On Facebook, he reported that the sailing boat, 16 meters long, was rented by tourists.
