More than half of teachers are ready for an effective strike if they do not receive a salary increase. This was shown by a national survey conducted by the trade union "Education" at the Confederation of Labour "Podkrepa" among educators.

Nearly 70 percent of respondents expect a 30 percent increase in teachers' salaries after a vote on this year's budget, and a quarter of respondents agree with a 20 percent increase.

The prevailing demand for the increase to be from January 1, 2023, less are expected to happen from July 1.

Julian Petrov, chairman of the Education Trade Union at the Podkrepa Labour Confederation: "There will be a national strike, most likely. We are not talking about political motives, we are talking only about social motives. Unfortunately, a teachers' strike, seen in our recent history, has blocked the whole country.

The survey among teachers highlights 12 important priorities for the system. The first three of them are a change of curricula and programs with new, immediate changes in school law and a strategy for financing education with 6% of GDP.
