Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara said he would visit the town of Abbiategrasso, near Milan, where a student attacked a teacher with a knife and wounded her in the arm and head.

Valditara described the incident as "particularly worrying".

The woman was taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Legnano and her condition is stable, sources said.

The 16-year-old attacker also threatened his classmates with a replica of a gun. He was detained by the Carabinieri and was also taken to a hospital in Milan with minor injuries.
