A Russian drone damaged part of the infrastructure of Ukraine's Black Sea port in Odessa, which is key to grain exports, the Ukrainian military said in a statement.

"As a result of the impact on the port infrastructure of Odessa, a fire broke out. He was quickly suppressed. Information on the extent of the damage is being updated," Ukraine's South Operational Command said on Facebook.

The military did not say whether the damage to the port threatened grain exports. Only through ports in the Odessa region can Ukraine export grain and other food products within the framework of the grain initiative.

In July last year, the United Nations and Turkey struck a deal to export grain across the Black Sea for an initial period of 120 days to help overcome the global food crisis, which deepened after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, one of the leading grain exporters.

The deal, which was extended this month, aims to ensure safe grain and grocery exports during the conflict from three Ukrainian ports - Odessa, Chernomorsk and Pivdeni.

Explosions rocked Kiev early this morning

Ukraine's military said Russian forces used Iranian-made Shahed drones in the attack, but did not provide further details.

In the early hours of today, Russia launched a wave of air strikes against various targets, including Kiev, using unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles. The capital's military administration says the defense forces have shot down more than 40 Russian missiles and drones.
