Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on May 29, according to which the Central Election Commission will be able to hold referendums and elections in territories where martial law is in force.

This is reported by the Russian media propaganda.

In the previous version of the Russian law, referendums and elections to bodies of state power and local self-government could not take place in territories where martial law is in force. Now the Russian Central Election Commission will be able to hold elections after consultations with the authorities.

It should be noted that in the fall of 2022, Russia declared "martial law" in the occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

Russian propaganda also informs that Putin signed a law allowing to establish the specifics of holding elections in the occupied territories of Ukraine. These new norms regulate relations related to the holding of illegal "elections" to the so-called "state authorities and local self-government bodies" of the fake "DPR", "LPR", Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. It is reported that in September 2023, residents of the occupied Ukrainian territories for the first time allegedly "will take part in a single voting day."

The new law also provides for the possibility of creating "polling stations" outside the occupied Ukrainian territories.

Note that in March 2024, regular presidential elections are scheduled in Russia.

Earlier, the mayor of occupied Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, said that the Russian invaders were preparing to hold "elections" in September in the occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region. To do this, the enemy came up with a new scheme to force residents of these territories to take Russian passports.
