On May 29, President Ilham Əliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan welcomed Chungvon Chu, president of the World Taekwondo Federation.
The EPA reports that the head of our state, Chungvon, welcomed his meetings with Chu and conveyed his congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the 26th world championship in Taekwondo in Baku.
Chungwon Chu welcomed the high level of the event, noting that the sporting event, attended by representatives of 144 countries, was the largest championship in taekwondo history. The guest pointed out that this championship was symbolic of the 100th anniversary of the birth of U.S. President Heydər Əliyev.
Chungvon Chu said the federation he led had been working successfully with the Azerbaijani Taekwondo Federation for many years.
During the discussion, high government care for the development of idols in Azerbaijan was emphasized, and it was important for our country to host the world's prestigious sporting events.
In addition to Baku, the head of our government said that modern sports complexes are operating in our circuits and emphasized the creation of extensive sports infrastructure in our areas liberated from invasion.
The meeting highlighted our country's interest in taekwondo, recalling that our athlete won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
