Bhopal:

Alcohol may not be good for health, but farmers in Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh are considering it as a boon for moong. Apart from moong, some farmers are also using turmeric, milk on crops. He says that spraying pesticides causes harm, although agricultural scientists have a different opinion. Farmers in Narmadapuram believe that spraying alcohol causes moong pods to grow, that is, very full. Many farmers spray 11 litres and 16 litres of spray machines with up to 100 ml of country and English liquor.

Premshankar Patel, a farmer from Nayakheda village in Narmadapuram district, has a 5-acre farm. Most of them take moong, wheat and occasionally paddy. The cost of spraying pesticides on moong comes to Rs 100-150 per acre, says Premshankar, while country liquor costs Rs 10-12 per acre. A little bit of pesticide has to be sprayed for the caterpillars. Spraying is done 40 days after sowing the crop. He said that this brings good fruits and flowers and a good harvest.

Protect against insects, more yield!
Many farmers are also spraying country liquor, mahua liquor mixed with water. According to Ghasi Ram, a resident of Bichua, the use of alcohol has been started to save crops due to the high prices of pesticides. With this, crops are also protecting from insects and yields are also increasing. Ghasiram says that mixing country liquor with pesticide is beneficial. This makes the flowers and pods good and also reduces the disease. He said that I take liquor for 80-90 rupees, country liquor will work. At the same time, pesticides are not working properly even for Rs 1500.

Pesticides like corogen, amida, acida, thio, current are available in the market for 1200 to 1800 rupees, while country liquor is available for 150 rupees and English liquor for 80 rupees for 200 ml. The 'mono', used to increase yield, costs around Rs 180 for an acre.

Jitendra Bhargava, a farmer who cultivates 30 acres in
Jamunia Randhir village, says, "Moong is drugged to increase production, but less than a quarter of the price is sprayed with alcohol, 500 ml of alcohol is consumed per acre, about 15 ml of alcohol is added to 100 litres of water. Jitendra Bhargava said that organic farming is being encouraged a lot in this area but it does not have enough facilities. He said that organic farming is not possible without cow mother. Farming with alcohol is an option. Alcohol is cheap, the chemicals that are put in moong will be mixed with alcohol. It is available for <> to <> rupees and is sprayed on one acre.

Moong crop is a cheap alternative
to the farmers, there is a fear of beetles, green fudka, mahu and blanket insects. About 800-1000 liters of medicines come to kill them. In such a situation, alcohol is a cheap option for farmers.

Agricultural scientists, however, have different opinions. He says that there is no scientific research to prove that alcohol can cause stress for insects. This is not the treatment.

In the
year 2023, the target of sowing moong crop is about 10 lakh 79 thousand hectares in the state. Last year, moong crop was sown in 9.29 lakh hectares, with an estimated production of 15 lakh metric tonnes. In 2022-23, Madhya Pradesh had received a target of 2,75,645 metric tonnes for the purchase of moong, while the state government had procured 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of moong. Given the benefits, this time farmers have sown moong crop in more area. In such a situation, farmers believe that alcohol is better than medicine for moong production.
