Director of the Center for Energy Research Oleksandr Kharchenko believes that hourly blackouts can be resumed in Ukraine. According to him, this could happen in July-August 2023.

He said this on May 29 on the air of a telethon.

Kharchenko stressed that now the Ukrainian energy system lacks capacity during peak hours, and therefore electricity is likely to be cut off again in Ukraine in July-August.

The expert explained the situation by the fact that Ukraine had already had to urgently import electricity from Romania and Poland to cover the consumption deficit. According to Kharchenko, the first to face blackouts will be business.

"Apparently, it is the business that will be the first to be limited in the supply of electricity and, accordingly, there will be two ways out: import from Europe or not work at all. However, European electricity is 2-2.5 times more expensive than in Ukraine," he said.

Missile strikes on Ukraine's energy system

Since October 2022, Russian terrorists have launched massive missile strikes on the Ukrainian energy system. Then the occupying army wanted to leave Ukrainians without electricity and heat during severe frosts so that our state would capitulate.

At the same time, schedules of emergency and hourly power outages were introduced. In 2023, power engineers managed to stabilize the situation.

Also, due to damage to the energy infrastructure, NEURC announced a possible increase in electricity tariffs.
