Greece's caretaker Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election in the run-off yesterday, national television ERT reported.

In his letter, Sarmas wished peace and prosperity to the Turkish people.

In addition to the Greek caretaker minister, the Turkish president received congratulations from world leaders, including his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, US President Joe Biden, Iran's Ebrahim Raisi and Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog.

Yesterday, after a disputed runoff, Erdogan finally won the presidential election, entering his third decade in power. The overall results from Turkey and abroad show Erdogan's victory by 52.16 percent to 47.84 percent for his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
