Russia will become vindictive if it loses the war in Ukraine. Such a warning was issued by former British General Sir Mike Wigston in connection with the counter-offensive prepared by Kiev.

Relations between London and Moscow will even deteriorate even worse if Putin loses on the battlefield in Ukraine.

Wigston told the Daily Mail that he expected Russia to be "hurt", "vindictive" and "ruthless", and did not rule out a scenario in which it would attack Britain through air attacks if Ukraine regained territory.

Washington Post: Ukrainian counter-offensive could disappoint West

This is the first public statement by a military person from an ally of Ukraine, which promotes the risk of a real clash between NATO and a humiliated Russia after the end of the conflict in the Eastern European country.

"When the war in Ukraine is over, and when Kiev regains its territory as it should, then we will have a wounded, vindictive and ruthless Russia that can attack us by air at any moment," Wigston warned.

"In Russia, there is a whole structure and hierarchy under Putin. That is, if Putin leaves the stage, there are others to replace him and who may be just as cruel to their own people and neighbors."

Wigston stressed that Russia would remain a "constant threat" to the UK and that the Kremlin was ready to wage a "brutal" war in the name of Russian historical revisionism.
