New Delhi:

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal has written to the Police Commissioner demanding the arrest of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and action against the personnel who detained the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. In a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, Maliwal said she was deeply pained to see that the Delhi Police misbehaved with women wrestlers and their families who were protesting peacefully at Jantar Mantar and forcibly detained them.

He said that a month ago, several women wrestlers, including a minor, had levelled serious allegations of sexual harassment against MP Sharan Singh. Maliwal said two FIRs were lodged against Singh on the intervention of the Supreme Court. "Despite a minor girl accusing the accused MP of sexual harassment, Delhi Police has failed to arrest him till date. This has forced women wrestlers to protest at Jantar Mantar which was going on for the last one month.

"In Delhi, around six cases of sexual harassment are reported every day and in each case, Delhi Police tries to arrest the accused person. Then why has Brij Bhushan Singh not been arrested till date? If this is not gross injustice, what else is there? "This blatant partisan attitude of the Delhi Police has made a mockery of justice.

Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia were detained by the Delhi Police on Sunday for violating law and order after they tried to break the security cordon and proceed towards the new Parliament building for a women's 'mahapanchayat'. After this, removing their belongings from Jantar Mantar, they said that now they will not be allowed to return here. The women wrestlers were released in the evening.
